At Hope and Healing Animal Sanctuary, horses who have faced neglect, abandonment, uncertainty, or the risk of slaughter find a safe place to rest, recover, and begin again.
Each horse arrives with a different story. Some need emergency medical care. Some need nutrition, training, and time to learn that people can be kind. Others are seniors or have special needs and deserve the comfort of a loving, lifelong home. No matter their past, every equine is met with patience, respect, and compassionate care.
Our sanctuary provides nutritious feed, safe shelter, veterinary and farrier care, dental care, rehabilitation, and individualized support for every resident. For horses who are ready, we work toward carefully matched adoptive homes. For those who need lifelong sanctuary, we promise they will always have a place where they are safe, valued, and loved.

🐴 Meet Jo Pa’s Wish – “Joey”
Jo Pa’s Wish, affectionately known as Joey, is a 21-year-old Standardbred mare with an incredible past. A successful racehorse, she earned over $110,000 on the track and later became the proud mother of four foals.
In 2021, after her last foal, Joey came to our sanctuary. Though she was once adopted out, she later developed neurological issues and was returned to us. Today, Joey is lovingly cared for here, where she will spend the rest of her life while we compassionately manage her symptoms.

🐴 Meet Hes Got The Look – “Cooper”
Cooper, registered as Hes Got The Look, is a 10-year-old Standardbred gelding with a story of resilience. In 2023, he was pulled from a Pennsylvania kill pen after spending years with the Amish, pulling a buggy day after day.
When he arrived, Cooper carried the scars of a hard life, including a tendon injury that causes him to wobble when he walks. While he is unsound for riding, he has found the safety and peace he deserves here at the sanctuary.
Now, Cooper enjoys his days grazing, relaxing, and living free from worry. His life here is one of comfort, love, and dignity—the sanctuary he has truly earned.

Mayday, a spirited Mustang from Oklahoma's KP herd, has a unique story to tell. She arrived at our sanctuary in a surprise package - literally! As Mayday grew, it became clear that she was going to be a small but mighty presence, standing at just about 12 hands tall at the age of 4..
However, Mayday's journey hasn't been without its challenges. She was born with poor conformation, which can make everyday activities a bit more difficult for her. Additionally, she has developed a severe cribbing and wind-sucking habit, which our team is working to manage and alleviate.
Despite these challenges, Mayday has found her happy place in our pasture, where she can roam freely and enjoy the simple pleasures in life. She loves being a pasture pet, and her small size only adds to her charm. As she grows and thrives, Mayday reminds us that even the smallest creatures can have the biggest impact on our hearts.

But fate had other plans. In 2021, Rough Seas was rescued from the jaws of slaughter and adopted as a companion horse, finally receiving the kindness and compassion he had been denied for so long. Though his life took another unexpected turn, and he recently returned to us, this time, he's home to stay.
Rough Seas has more than earned the right to rest, to breathe, and to simply be a horse without fear or expectation. His journey has been long and arduous, but now, he has finally reached the calm waters of our sanctuary.
